Becoming Tourist in Turkey

We talked about how is becoming tourist here, what did she live in Turkey, her travelling and experiments and more.. with Shaimaa Fateem from Egypt.

1- Could you introduce yourself?
I’m Shaimaa Fateem. 28 years old. Graduated from Engineering college and I work as an English instructor.

2-How did you decide to come Turkey for holiday?
Every year I choose one new country to visit to have a new experience and last year I was In Ukraine where I met amazing Turkish friends so that encouraged me to explore their culture and start planning for traveling to Turkey and also I heard very good reviews from my friends who visited it.

3-How long have you been Turkey and which cities you have visited?
12 days. I visited Istanbul and Izmir.

4-Which places you have gone and liked in Istanbul?
Bosphorus cruise tour, Blue Mosque&Hagia Sophia, Princess Island, Galata Tower, two of shopping malls, tour around Asian side and Eminonu with Turkish friends , Taksim, Sultan Ahmed street, Teleferik in Izmir and Florya Sosyal Tesisleri I liked all the places especially Bosphorus tour and the Teleferik.

5- Did you like Turkish food?
Yes, I liked very much especially kebab and Beklawah.

6- What did you observe about Turkish culture?
That Turkish culture is a little bit like Egyptian culture. It’s also a combination of European culture and Arabic culture.

7-Which side is common with Egypt and Turkey?
Both Egyptian and Turkish people love food and desserts. Marriage and family traditions are close and both countries have amazing history.

8- Was it easy to communicate with the public?
Yes. It was easy and people were helpful most of the time.

9-How was your accommodation?
Booking an accommodation was bad as we booked a room in Hotel in Taksim but when we went to it was bad hotel not like the photos on booking site. It was insecure so we couldn’t stay there and thank goodness that an Egyptian friend who lives in Istanbul helped us to find another place to stay in. The time was too late to find a room in a hotel so our Egyptian friend called two or three of his friends to ask them about any good place that can be booked at this late time and after searching he found a small apartment in Ataköy tower in Yenibosna it’s secure, in a very good area and near to metro and bus station.

10-How is transportation?
In Turkey, many transportation ways such as metro, bus, minibus, tram, taxi and metrobus. The most popular one is metro bus as it’s very fast.

11-What were the useful applications that you use in Turkey?
Google map was helpful most of the time but sometimes we cannot reach the place without asking people or Turkish friend about the direction. 12-Did interesting events happen to you in Istanbul?
Yes, Earthquake in Istanbul I was in 212 mall for shopping when it happened. The shop assistants told as that we have to move out of the mall and wait out for 20 minuets in case it would happen again.

13-What would you say if you define the Turkey?
East and west combination.

14-How is becoming tourist in Istanbul for you?
It was amazing. It’ll not be my last time and it made me feel like home.

15-What were you thinking about Istanbul before you came? And now what are you thinking about Istanbul?
I thought it would be nice place to visit just for fun and shopping but I found out that it has amazing culture, food and historical places.

16-Is Istanbul a place to live for you?
I’ve thought about living in Istanbul since I arrived and who knows maybe I’ll live there one day.

17-What do you offer to people who come to Istanbul?
I offer them good recommendation about food and shopping.
